A diesel hum filled the cavernous bus as yellow lights sporadically pierced its windows. While most of the WFE MVP 30 sat in slumber, exhausted from flight delays and travel, one boy sat energized and wide eyed. "Look at all of those lights," he said excitedly as the bus rolled down Brickell Avenue.
From his passion for learning to his "I will never give up" attitude, Jamil’s fervor is contagious and knows no boundaries. His favorite subject is math, and he loves "studying hard" with his parents, but take our word for it, he is a very special writer. When he wasn’t asking questions or offering a helping hand, you could find him writing in his I PROMISE journal. "I want to be a doctor so I can help people who are sick," wrote Jamil (luckily for us, he also wants to work for the Foundation).
What will he do if things get tough? Easy, he "will work hard, be strong and most importantly, will never give up." Do these words sound familiar? They are to Jamil. He wears his LeBron wristbands, stacked proudly, on his arm. He has earned every single band this school year.
As LeBron’s silhouette appeared in the distance, Jamil sprang to his feet and cheered. Fittingly, he sat just feet away as his favorite basketball player accepted the 2013 MVP.
"Could I be a doctor in Miami, Mr. C?" Jamil asked, yet again glued to the dark windows, as the arena faded into the distance. With Jamil’s passion and commitment, he will be whatever he wants to be.
Jamil is chasing his dreams and we are blessed to be a part of Jamil’s I PROMISE journey.
