Ellet Hometown Hall
With rain pounding the pavement outside, a wave of warmth and excitement permeated the premise at Ellet High School in Akron. As the words "We are family!" resonated from the sound system, the familiar tune set the tone and set the stage for the LeBron James Family Foundation’s final Hometown Hall meeting of the 2015-16 school year. Over the course of the academic calendar year, team LJFF and its supporting cast visited each cluster in the Akron Public School system to inspire lively and valuable conversation over a warm family meal.
Fitting for a family get together, several of LJFF’s valued partners joined the finale to toast to a successful series and share in the evening’s learnings. As is the case with all Hometown Hall meetings, the meal was prepared by partner Old Carolina BBQ, while friends from Hickory Harvest, our LAB members, former associates, and parents of our kids all participated in the meeting’s festivities.
The night also included a special presentation by a very special guest and new LJFF partner, Matt Geis and his team from Ohio Cycle Works. As Matt told his story and shared his commitment to riding 860 miles with his team to benefit LJFF, our kids intently and excitedly took in every word. Following the heartfelt and informative presentation, the students mobbed the stage to take a group photo with Matt, confirming their appreciation and support for the valiant and fearless commitment he had made to them.
Capping off an entire school year’s worth of door prizes, cling it! winners, guest speakers, and invaluable feedback, the finale at Ellet put an exclamation mark on this year’s successful series of Hometown Hall meetings. As we wrap up the school year, we’re already plotting how we can continue to up the ante at next year’s meetings!
