Look good, feel good, play good
Spring has come and gone and with it we enjoyed watching the great seasons that St. Vincent- St. Mary High School’s sports teams put forth. The saying, "Look good, feel good. Feel good, play good", rang true as the Irish were performing at a high level in their second season with their new LeBron PROMISE Kept Nike uniforms. The baseball team finished with a solid 16-13 record and made their way to the district semi-final. The softball team played their way to the regional semi-final. Both boys and girls track and field teams had extremely successful seasons. At the Division II OHSAA State Track Meet, the boys won the 4x800 relay and the girls came up just short of the title in the 4x400 relay in which they lost by .02 seconds in a miraculous effort. Boys and girls lacrosse turned in hard fought seasons at 7-9 and 4-8, respectively. The boys tennis team also enjoyed a good spring.
The Irish welcomed a new team this past spring. Boys volleyball, a growing sport in Northeast Ohio, entered into its first season at STVM. The team is coached by Sarah Jacobson who played four years of collegiate volleyball and was last head girls varsity coach at Hathaway Brown. "My goal is to build a program that the players and school can be proud of," she said in her arrival. The boys had a tough road in their inaugural season, but that is expected in the first year of a team’s existence. However, with the aspect of looking good and feeling good in place with their Nike uniforms and being the only spring sports team able to call LeBron James Arena, now in its second year, home, success on the court will certainly come with time. In addition, with another year of experience under the team’s belt and a young core, expect the Irish to continue to make strides to build up the fresh program starting next year.
