NBA Cares Community Assist Award
Since before he entered the NBA, LeBron’s commitment to uplifting his community in Akron has always been one of his top priorities. Over the years, his commitment has steadily grown and evolved to now include plans for an upcoming public school geared specifically towards the kids in his I PROMISE program. Providing resources and opportunities for more than 1,200 Akron students and their entire families, his Foundation’s efforts and "We Are Family" philosophy have become a way of life in his hometown.
For his impact on his local community, the NBA recently recognized LeBron with the league’s NBA Cares Community Assist Award for the month of December in front of another sellout crowd at The Q. The award highlights an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion that the league and its players share for giving back to their communities.
For a kid from Akron on a mission to create generational change in his community, this acknowledgement was another step on LeBron’s journey to changing lives for the kids and families in Akron who need it most.
