Who puts the wheels in Wheels for Education? Well, LeBron does (Frisbees for Education would be a lot easier to assemble than bikes, but the big man wants his kids to have bikes); however, Andy, Tom and our grant to the Bike Kitchen keep those wheels rolling. The Bike Kitchen staff are getting the shop prepared to assemble bikes for the incoming Class of 2023. All bikes are "safety checked and fine-tuned" by the Kitchen’s expert technicians before they are given to our Wheels for Ed kids in August.
Located under the State Street Parking Deck and next to Lock 3, the Bike Kitchen was the answer to "How do we assemble 350 bikes every year?" and "What do we do if our child’s tire is popped?" Almost a year later and with over 1500 devoted hours, the Bike Kitchen has served more than 850 people! You can bring your bike down on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to Noon and on Wednesdays from 4:30 – 8:00 PM.
The Bike Kitchen is free to Wheels for Ed students.
